Making Fields Mandatory or Optional
The Apply module provides School Admins with full control over their application form fields with the opportunity to decide on whether or not selected form fields are mandatory (meaning forms cannot be submitted unless the required field has been completed), or optional. This is useful in ensuring schools are able to collect the information which is most important to them whilst ensuring consistency across a large volume of incoming forms/applications.
Setting fields as Mandatory or Optional
- Go to Admin > Forms and locate the form that you wish to modify.
- Click the Pencil/Edit icon to enter the form editor.
- Find the field on your form you you would like to modify.
- Click anywhere within your chosen field to bring up the Edit Field pop-up box.

Under the Validation heading, ensure that the Mandatory box is selected if you wish for the field to be mandatory, or unselected if you wish for the field to be optional.
Tip:You will also note the ‘Visibility’ heading within the ‘Edit Field’ pop-up box, which can be used to modify whether or not the field is visible or hidden on your application form.)
- Once you have completed your preferences, click the Update button.
- Once you have completed all your changes, click the Save button, followed by the Publish button at the bottom of the form editor
Note: Any updates made will only be valid for new applications and will not modify applications that have already been submitted or are currently in progress
Setting Multiple choice fields as Optional or Mandatory
- Go to Admin > Forms and locate the form that you wish to modify.
- Click the Pencil/Edit icon to enter the form editor.
- Locate the multiple choice field on your form you you would like to modify.
- Click on the data entry field to bring up the options dialog
- Turn on the toggle to enable the minimum number of files to be specified
- User the slider control to specify the minimum
- If desired, repeat for the maximum number, otherwise leave that off
System Fields are always Mandatory
Some fields, particularly those which are structural to the integrity of each form (E.g. Name, Contact Relationship, Email Address etc) cannot be modified.
