What is Check-In Mode?
Check-In Mode turns a device into a locked-down check-in station for a single event. Once switched on, that browser session can only see the check-in screen for the event you selected — nothing else in Enquiry Tracker is accessible until someone logs out and back in with their own account.
It's designed to be handed to someone who doesn't have (and shouldn't need) their own Enquiry Tracker login — a student helper, a casual staff member, or anyone else helping out on the day.
Why would I use it?
A typical use case: a staff member logs into ET on a tablet, opens the event, and clicks SWITCH TO CHECK IN MODE. They then hand the tablet to a helper on the door, who checks families in as they arrive without ever seeing enquiries, students, or any other school data.
What can be done while in Check-In Mode?
Once a device is in Check-In Mode, the person using it can:
- See the list of families registered for that event.
- Check a whole family in at once by ticking their row.
- Open a family's booking to check in individual contacts, students or guests separately, for partial attendance.
- Edit a subset of student and parent/guardian data
What can't be done while in Check-In Mode?
Check-In Mode deliberately limits what's available, since it's meant for someone without their own ET access. While in this mode, the device cannot:
- Send emails to families from the event (the SEND EMAIL button is disabled).
- Edit the event's details, capacity, or online registration settings.
- Access anything outside this one event — enquiries, other events, forms, or admin settings.
How do I exit Check-In Mode?
Log out from within Check-In Mode rather than simply closing the browser tab or window. Logging out properly returns the device to the normal ET login screen, ready for the next person to sign in with their own account.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to use Check-In Mode to run an event?
No. It's entirely optional. If everyone checking families in already has their own ET login, you can check families in from the normal RSVP List without switching modes at all.
Can I use Check-In Mode for more than one event at once?
Check-In Mode is scoped to the specific event you were viewing when you switched it on. If you're running more than one event at a time, put a separate device into Check-In Mode for each one.
Is Check-In Mode the same as the "Checked In" column on the RSVP List?
No. The Checked In column and status exist regardless of Check-In Mode — you can update it from your own logged-in session too. Check-In Mode is just a restricted way of reaching that same check-in action, suitable for someone without their own login.
