Why does this error appear?
Merging combines two records for the same student into one, so you're left with a single, accurate enrolment history. Enquiry Tracker won't let a merge go ahead if it finds more than one of the same online application form sitting against that student.
This usually happens when a parent starts an online application form, doesn't finish it, and then starts a fresh one to complete their submission. That leaves two forms attached to the student — for example, one In Progress and one In Review — and Enquiry Tracker can't tell which one should carry through to the merged record, so it stops the merge and shows an error.
How do I fix an "Unable to Merge" error?
Perform the following steps to find and remove the duplicate form so the merge can go ahead:
- Go to Form Entries > Apply Forms.
- Search for the student by name to see all forms associated with them.
- Look through the results for more than one Online Application Form against the same student (for example, one In Progress and one In Review).
- Open the incomplete or unwanted duplicate and check it doesn't contain any information you still need.
- If it's safe to remove, delete that duplicate application.
- Once the student has only one Online Application Form, try the merge again — it will now go through.
Frequently asked questions
What if both duplicate forms contain information I need?
Don't delete either form. Contact Enquiry Tracker support and we'll help you work out how to retain the information you need before the records are merged.
Will deleting the duplicate form affect the student's other records?
No. Deleting the extra application form only removes that duplicate entry — it doesn't affect the student's other enrolment records.
